Centenary Celebration - Advance warning.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the opening of Purley School for Boys.  As you may know,  the school was demolished in 2012 and has been replaced by Coulsdon College. To mark the 100th, many of the old boys and staff, led by Derek Akers are looking to have a Celebration lunch, possibly followed by a tour of the new college during the summer. If you would be interested in attending please would you let us know by dropping a line with your details to us at Purleyboys100@aol.com. It would be good if you could add the years that you attended as well as a contact phone number to the email. The expected cost is around £20. Actual date and venue details to follow when we have an idea of the numbers.

A cold winter's morning at Tollers 1967/68

On a cold winter's day we get a repeat from 2001 - Paul Mathews made the comment.

Pete Irwin (scrum half) Paul Mathews at front (me) then Steve Paine, Paul Masters (hidden), Trevor Muckenbeck, Peter Smith, then no idea! Thrower? my best guess is Paul Berry.

OPCC disco in 1977

I have found more old negatives (" save us “ i hear you cry ) from an era long gone at the Parsons Pightle- Chris Lehur is there along with Steve Dawe and Julian Mattinson in the bottom photo, but now sadly no longer with us. Yves Lehur and Geoff Holden are also seen in the bottom photo. Where is Mr Holden now?

More from Peter Davies 1956 - 1961

My German Verb book from 1958 - 59 - German Master J. A. Beeley  (Jab). Anyone remember him?

My Woodwork Theory exam paper from 1961 (one of my few academic successes!). Thank you George Love.

I did enjoy the final reunion - can't believe it was 2007, how the time flies.

Very best wishes,

Peter Davies 1956 - 1961

St Andrew's Coulsdon Cricket Club and Scout Group reunion

Remember these two handsome hunks? You will do if you played for St Andrew's Coulsdon Cricket Club in the 1970's and 1980's and you could be meeting them again on Saturday 28th June 2014 at the Cricket Club and Scout Group joint reunion at St Andrew's Church Hall beginning at 2pm. This invite is also for any former members of the 20th Purley (St Andrew's) Scout Group. If this is you, please contact Martin Jones, via 'Where are they Now?' for further details.

We would also like to get in touch with anyone else who was associated with the Club or Group, for example Mike Bett (basketball wizard) and Phil Morris (Maurice?), brother of Revd Peter Morris who was a few years younger than me at Purley. Does any of you have any details please?

Peter Davies 1956 - 1961 has some memories to share...

"Still going strong"  .. on a visit to Brooklands last year .. a "190" RT. This took us to school from Coulsdon South each morning. However from the second year onwards our group had to run down Marlpit Lane each afternoon to catch the 4.12 train.

The bus left the Tudor Rose at one minute to four and the next one missed the train by a couple of minutes - meaning a half hour wait for the next train (crucial if one had a paper round to do!).
