MARTIN JONES COMMENTS "I was very sorry to hear of the death of Mrs Ananin. Irene came to Purley whilst I was there in the 1960's and was (to the best of my recollection) the only lady teacher on the staff during my time at the school. Our paths never crossed whilst I was at Purley but I know that she was well liked and well respected by the staff and boys who valued her friendly but no-nonsense approach to teaching. I was glad that I was able to chat at the reunions which we attended, in particular the reunion in 2007. RIP Irene and my sympathy to her family."

I will post your kind thoughts - i am content that you are not a robot. There is a vibrant Facebook group for the "younger " set of Purleians who are all very sorry to hear about Irene's death - she was very popular.
You might be able to see it here ( nt sure if you need to be a member to see it -

I hope you are well
