Location seems to be Tollers Lane and I suggest the green on the left comprises the grass covered slopes of Farthing Downs leading down to Happy Valley rather than a body of water. If this is correct, the Tollers Lane rugby pitches, so beloved of a generation of Purley boys, will be just off-shot at the bottom of the photos. Colour quality is understandably poor but what looks like two grass tennis courts can be seen to the left of the main school building. I remember the tennis courts but not grass covered. These photos are not, I suggest, the earliest aerial photos of the school, as 1-2 have been posted on this site from the earliest days of the school in the 1930s.

Please explore the world of Purley Boys School 1914-1988. Feel free to leave your memories and comments on the photos.

There is a search function too - see the box top left ? Just enter a keyword and all the articles or photos that match will appear from the archives.
